Downtown, where the action is? Near the highway for a quick early-morning getaway? A pool? Workout room? An elegant hotel with an equally elegant restaurant? All of these are available - here's a short list compiled from client recommendations:
Downtown: The Bell Tower Hotel - across from Hill Auditorium and a favorite of the academic community. Escoffier, the adjoining restaurant, is superb. Morning coffee and continental breakfast but no room service.
The Dahlmann Campus Inn - the location makes it a favorite! Walk down State Street to savor the campus atmosphere. Newly renovated restaurant and there's room service. Several other excellent restaurants nearby.
Outskirts: Weber's Inn is an Ann Arbor landmark. On the West side of town, near expressways. Indoor pool (some rooms overlook it), great restaurant and sometimes a piano player.
Hawthorn Suites - an "extended stay" hotel on the East side of town. My clients liked the small kitchen facilities. There's a freezer in the lobby, stocked with quick meals for the microwave. Near intersection of US 23 and Plymouth Road - great location if you're visiting the U of M's North Campus facilities.
Hampton Inns - there's one North and one South. Indoor pools. Expanded continental breakfast.
Ann Arbor Crowne Plaza - South side of town near I-94. All the perks for business travelers - the executive level has the computer/fax etc. connections. Indoor pool, health club. Graham's Steak House restaurant is lively.
Bed and Breakfast: The Artful Lodger - on Washtenaw Avenue on the outskirts of Central Campus. A favorite of visiting musicians due to the musical interests of the inn-keepers.
The Vitosha Guest Haus - on Washtenaw Avenue, offering lodging for scholars, artists and the world weary. For romance we offer draped, gothic kabinet beds and fireplaces, also verandas with gargoyles and angels. Serving complementary tea and breakfast on the gazebo, teahouse or green room each day.
Bed and Breakfast on Campus - built by an Ann Arbor book store owner as his private residence it's been converted into a lovely B & B. Superb location across the street from The Rackham Building.
Woods Inn - Victorian farm house on the outskirts of Ann Arbor - very rural atmosphere. Small and inviting.
